ACT nomination process

Before you begin the ACT nomination process, you require submitting a valid Expression of Interest (EOI) through online SkillSelect application system of Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Australia. Stepwise process for ACT nomination

  • Fulfil the ACT nomination eligibility requirements

  • Submit the Canberra Matrix
  • Wait for your Matrix to be selected and ranked
  • Apply for nomination
  • ACT shall review and assess your submitted application and documents

  • Apply for a visa within 60 days of receiving the ITA (Invitation to Apply) for visa.

Canberra Matrix Guidelines for submission

You can show your interest in applying for ACT nomination by finishing a score-based ‘Canberra Matrix’ where points can be obtained against key criteria comprising skilled employment, English proficiency, formal qualifications, length of ACT residence / study, investment activity and close family ties, etc. Find below the stepwise Canberra matrix guidelines:

  • Read the criteria attentively and make certain you are eligible to claim Matrix points.
  • Enter your personal information.
  • Select either ACT 491 nomination or ACT 190 nomination.
  • Select Canberra resident or overseas applicant.
  • Select yes/no ‘PhD Streamlined nomination’
  • Select eligibility criteria: 
    • Occupation on the current ACT Critical Skills List; or
    • 457/482 visa holder; or
    • Small business owner.
  • Select one option in the drop-down menu for each Matrix category (does not apply to PhD Streamlined).
