Camping Activities Guide – Fun Things to Do While Camping

camping activities

Camping really is just endlessly fun! Whether you’re hitting the great outdoors with your nearest and dearest, buddies, little ones, your furry friends or just yourself, you’re going to need a couple of fun activities tucked up your sleeves to entertain you whilst you bask in nature. Camping activities can take some creativity and mindfulness to get right, and if you’re looking for a little inspiration then you’ve come to the right place!

Orienteering

A day spent adventuring is a day well spent! Orienteering is the best way to have some major fun exploring the area that you’re camping in. Trek through the bush, along the coastline or across a National Park teaches you so much about your surroundings and opens your whole group up to the unimaginable beauty of the great outdoors. If you’re camping with younger ones, this is a great way of teaching them a few handy skills that they’re likely to remember forever. Get the maps, whistles, snacks and water together, it’s time to have an amazing day discovering your camping grounds!

Arts and Crafts

Get expressive and creative is a great way to stimulate your brain without having to get up and go anywhere. This one is perfect for rainy days or for when your group is too exhausted to head out into the action. Think about doing some still life painting, self-portraits, knitting, crochet or collaging in your camper trailer or tent for the perfect solution to downtime without phones. Mix it up and play a painting version of Pictionary to add a game element to your creative session.

Capture the Flag

Come on, who doesn’t enjoy Capture the Flag? Young or old, we can all get around this free-wheeling bit of fun next time we go camping. This is also a fantastic way of getting all the kids in the campground together or making a few new adult friends for yourself, once people get word of the fun they won’t stay away for long. Long, lazy days at the campsite just got a whole lot more competitive, that’s for sure!

Campfire Cooking

Just because camp cooking is complicated, doesn’t mean you can’t get any joy out of it! Getting the family together for a little culinary creativity, marshmallow toasting, barbequing or even just sugar cookie decoration can be a serious bit of fun. This is perfect for chilly nights spent by the fire, minus the scary stories!

Hide and Seek

Another total classic! There’s no way your kids will want to skip out on the odd game of hide and seek on your next camping trip. They’ll be so many options for hiding and it’s a great way to tire them out when those energy levels aren’t seeming to go down any time soon – if ever. Again, the kids from neighbouring spots can easily get involved here, which your kids will probably really enjoy if they’ve been away from their pals for a couple of days.

Explore the Local Area

Look, you’ve gone camping to revel in nature, that’s a fact – but sometimes, you just need to get out into civilization again, if only for an hour or two! Hop in the car or stroll to the local village, town or shops, a hot lunch here, a chat with a local there, you’ll be feeling human in no time.

Any one of these exciting camping activities is going to make your next camping trip your most action-packed and stimulating one yet!
